Wayne Eddington, Tennis Coach 2003-2025

As many of you know, Wayne Eddington passed away on January 21, 2026. Wayne brought laughter and love to so many, and he was a true light in the darkness when many of us were struggling. We are planning a celebration of life that reflects Wayne’s vibrant spirit, filled with music, stories, and love. If Wayne touched your life, we hope you will join us in celebrating him on Saturday, May 16, 2026, between 11am and 2pm at the Grossmont High School “Old Gym”, 1100 Murray Drive, El Cajon, CA 92020.

This event is intended to celebrate Wayne’s life and lasting impact. In honor of his love of sports and his dedication to his teams, please wear colors or apparel representing the New Orleans Saints (black/gold), LSU Tigers (purple/gold), Grossmont High School Foothillers (blue/gold), or Nike tennis gear.

From 2003 until the fall of 2025, Wayne coached tennis in various positions. In Fall of 2025, he assisted Hillary with the girls tennis teams. He had two stints with the boys, broken up by health issues.

Wayne was head coach for boys in 2013. He started back volunteering to assist with the boys around 2015 and became head coach again when Paul Hedberg retired.

Class of 1959 Alumni Kitty Gregg Kope, Nancy Berg Lamb, Sue Cosby Kaplan, and Marti Ballance Guarin have been getting together yearly since 1987. They stand in front of the 2 drawings of GHS they inspired Artist Bob Happ to create for Grossmont High School.

Jackson Naah, Class of 2028, frequently visits the Museum. Jackson plays his banjo on Fridays at the La Mesa Farmers’ Market.
